Safety Products to Keep Workers Away From Electrical Hazards

When installing or repairing electrical switchgear, safety is important. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has put together the guidelines known as NFPA70E to help workers identify precautions to protect safety. More importantly, the NFPA70E discusses electrical safety.

Which products are recommended for keeping workers safe?

Fortunately, there are products that help prevent these issues. Voltage can be the cause of problem when resolving an electrical issue. Grace Engineered Products, Inc. (Grace) has created products that provide an indication that there is live voltage on a panel. They also offer the ability to test for voltage without having to open the door of an enclosure and risk  being exposed. Ultimately, this allows workers to save time by not having to suit up.

There is also a new product known as a voltage test center. According to Grace, “The Voltage Test Station (VTS) is a Permanent Electrical Safety Device that allows workers to quickly and safely validate zero electrical energy from outside the electrical enclosure.” This device is mounted externally on panels and connects to the internal power supply so that the worker does not have to open the panel to complete voltage testing.

How can we continue to maintain a high safety standard?

The products discussed are specifically used to keep people safe when working with live voltage. However, the goal is continue maintaining high standards of safety in the workplace. To do so, it is important to make sure workers are informed about the severity of an electrical disaster. Organizations like Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) focus on providing resources to keep companies and people safe from harm.
