Power Survey Product Feature: Low Voltage Power Factor Correction Solutions

Power Survey remains an industry leader for Commercial & Industrial energy users looking for power disturbance resolution solutions. If you need equipment for power factor correction capacitors, harmonic filtering, and power monitoring and analysis, Power Survey is a great option. This month’s spotlight will focus on Power Survey products designed for low voltage power factor correction solutions. If you need to boost your facility’s energy efficiency and productivity, then read on for a variety of options.

What do the terms “power factor” and “power factor correction” mean, and why do you need either for your facility or company? Power factor is simply how effective your electrical system is at converting electric current into usable power output. For example, a low power factor means you’re not fully using the electrical power you’re paying for. This manifests in a few ways including: creating significant penalties on your electricity bill, overloading your electrical distribution system, and increasing your carbon footprint. Obviously, we want to avoid these situations and power factor correction makes that possible.

Low Voltage Power Factor Correction Solutions

PowerCap LV – Industrial Capacitors

PowerCaps are capacitor-based products designed to be used in low voltage environments when parts of your electrical system need fixed, static capacitance. They offer a little flexibility with the ability to be floor or wall-mounted as well. These industrial capacitors feature optional replaceable fusing, indicator lighting to visually indicate cleared fusing, and/or air filters for use in dusty environments.

PowerVar LV – Capacitor Banks (Filtered and Non-filtered)

This low voltage capacitor bank is a great way to install power factor correction capabilities in your facility or building. PowerVar LV are designed to compensate reactive power and harmonic distortion and boost efficiency by maintaining power factor at an optimum level. The capacitor cells due to its self-healing, low loss metallized polypropylene dielectric film and solder-free connections. In addition to a PCB-free, flame-resistant mineral filler material, the casings also contain an adhesive stabilizer and three-phase overpressure disconnector. The discharge resistors to reduce residual voltage to less than 50V in one minute. All working within an operating temperature of -40°C (-40°F) to 60°C (140°F).

Dynamic PowerVar LV – Thyristor-switched Capacitor Banks

Thyristor-switched Capacitor Banks offer ultra-rapid transient-free power factor compensation due to fast varying or large low voltage connected loads. This gives the additional benefits of transient-free compensation and voltage dip minimization. This enables large capacitor network connections much more quickly

All in all, Power Survey offers a variety of options for power factor correction and their clients even report a return on their investment in 3 – 18 months. Contact EMR here to see if they offer solutions that could work for facility as well.
