Transformers installed in Lenoir City, Tennessee with the help of EMR Associates

EMR Associates is proud to announce the installation of two WEG Power Transformers in the town of Lenoir City, Tennessee. The purchase order for these transformers was placed in 2015 and the transformers were successfully installed earlier this year. The top end rating of the transformers are 46 MVA. The substation voltage is stepped down from 69 kV to 13 kV.

EMR Associates worked with Anthony Hanson of Patterson and Dewar Engineers, Inc. and acted as the sales representative for WEG, a multi-national company with its main headquarters located, in the south of Brazil and US headquarters in Atlanta, GA. WEG is also the largest transformer manufacturer in South America and supplies complete solutions in automation, energy generation, transmission and distribution, motor control and protection, and industrial processes. WEG delivers power transformers for the industrial, utility, and public power markets including arc furnace transformers, and autotransformers up to 350 MVA and 550kV.

Core cutting and clamping – The design utilizes round core construction with cold rolled grain oriented silicon steel. The clamping method is designed to prevent movement of core laminations while simultaneously supplying support for the windings. This robust design gives added short-circuit strength as well as improved bracing for transportation.

Winding area – The winding assembly follows rigorous quality standards. High cleanliness, high quality parts and tight manufacturing tolerances ensure very low impedance variation.

Vapor phase – The modern vapor phase system is the quickest and most effective way to dry transformers. This process ensures perfect dryness which leads to a longer transformer life. Vapor phase drying also reduces drying time by over 50% when compared to a non-vapor phase oven. Passing this time savings along the production schedule results in quicker delivery.

Manufacturing resources – The production facilities are equipped with state-of-the art engineering design software and equipment including the Anderson Program, finite element analysis software, and 3-D modeling programs which helps to ensure total quality control all the way from design to production to testing.

Customer service, delivery, logistics, and field service – WEG and EMR Associates offer their customers complete service and post-sales support including supervision, field service, start-up, commissioning, and site testing. The WEG service department employs highly skilled experienced servicemen capable of providing rapid response support to any jobsite across North America.

Quality system – Quality control is carried out at each stage of production on a self-assessment basis. Each employee regards the next workstation as his customer and performs a series of quality checks before passing on a product down the line. The Quality Assurance department monitors all quality control documents and carries out its own additional inspection at strategic points in the production line. As a consistent guarantee to the highest quality, The company also utilizes ISO 9000 standards and has achieved ISO 9001 certification for all its transformer facilities. Regular internal and external audits ensure full and continuous conformity with this international standard.
